Summary:
Though it was badly flooded, the leaders of this pre-K through eighth grade charter school fought to gut and repair the building in the months following Hurricane Katrina, rather than having it demolished. That work was doubly important to neighbors, since the building includes a public library that opens onto Caffin Avenue. When he made a visit to the school in 2009, President Barack Obama praised that work and singled out the school as an example of the progress in the Lower Ninth Ward since the storm.
